Emmanuel Rodriguez joins the Indiana State University School of Music as Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands, where he will lead the Marching Sycamores and Sycamore Basketball Band in addition to teaching courses in music education. Most recently, Professor Rodriguez served as Visiting Professor of Music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he directed the Technical Fowls Pep Band as well as conducted the Symphonic and Concert Bands.

Rodriguez is currently in his final year pursing a Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in Wind Conducting from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. Prior to LSU, Rodriguez earned a Masters of Arts in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. At LSU and UCF, Rodriguez served as a member of the instructional staff for both programs as a graduate teaching assistant. Rodriguez earned a Bachelors of Science in Instrumental Music from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, FL. While at FAMU, Rodriguez served as University Bands President, student conductor, and saxophone section leader within the Incomparable Marching ‘100’ Band. He also served as Co-Founder and President of the Harmonic Minors Men’s Club, a service organization within the Department of Music that would serve as the petitioning organization for Kappa Kappa Psi years later.

As a native of South Florida, Rodriguez was fortunate to have taught in schools that served his hometown and community. Most recently, Rodriguez served as the Director of Bands at Miramar High School, where he reanimated the historic program by quadrupling student participation, creating new ensemble and course options for students, achieving consistently high ratings in district and state evaluations, and connecting with feeder programs and the greater community. Prior to that appointment, Rodriguez served as the Associate Director of Bands at Blanche Ely High School, his alma mater.

Beyond the classroom, Rodriguez is active as an arranger, drill writer, guest conductor and clinician for numerous universities, festivals, and camps across the Southeast and has presented at national, state, and regional conferences. Most recently, his presentation entitled “The 4 (W)W’s- How to Teach Alternate Fingerings for Woodwinds in Your Ensemble!” was given at The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic and the FMEA Professional Development Conference. Rodriguez has also presented on the topics of advocacy and music technology.

In the area of advocacy, Rodriguez served as a co-founder of the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) Legislative Advocacy Day — an event in which music educators from across Florida gather at the State Capitol in Tallahassee to meet with representatives to discuss legislative points concerning music education. Modeled after the NAfME Capitol Hill Day, this event was the first of its kind by any state and recently celebrated its ninth anniversary.

Rodriguez holds memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, National Association for Music Education, Louisiana Music Educators Association, Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Kappa Delta Pi, and Phi Kappa Lambda. In his free time, Prof. Rodriguez enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and puppy - Clover Noelle.
